Why do my phone numbers change format after Excel to VCF export?

Hi Everybody,

I maintain a contact list in Excel, but whenever I convert it using an XLSX to VCF Converter, the phone numbers change automatically. Some lose the + sign, some get formatted differently, and others show up with zeros missing. I need the exact number format because these are global contacts. I tried using another Excel to VCF Converter, but the same issue happens. Is there a proper way to store numbers in Excel before exporting? Or does the problem come from the conversion tool?

Hey,

Excel auto-formatting is the reason for phone number changes. Once the formatting is fixed, it will no longer happen.

Get your Excel ready as follows:

Change the phone column to text format instead of number.

Add + prefixes that are missing on the phones manually.

Turn off auto-correction in Excel.

Get rid of the hyphens, brackets or extra spaces.

While converting:

Make the export with UTF-8 encoding.

Keep column headers straightforward (Name, Number).

Do not place any additional formatting characters.

A dependable tool like WholeClear Excel to vCard Converter ensures that number formatting remains precise and that international formats are maintained.
